Picnics For Kids
Summer would not be a great time without a fabulous picnic in a park, at the beach or your own backyard.

Don't know how to pack a picnic or how to have some picnic fun? No problem! I know how...

Picnic Needs:

  • Picnic basket and/or cooler
  • Large blanket or tablecloth for sitting on
  • Napkins or baby wipes
  • Disposable plates and cups (or plastic ones)
  • Disposable eating utensils (or plastic ones)
  • Garbage bag (don't leave garbage behind)
  • Insect repellent and sun screen
  • Beach Umbrella (if you have one)
  • First aid kit

Picnic Foods:
  • Juice boxes, cool-aid or ice tea
  • Straws
  • Trail mix (purchase at bulk store for BIG savings)
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Potato or macaroni salad
  • Sandwiches (tuna, bologna, cheese, peanut butter, etc)
  • Salad (remember to pack some dressing)
  • Cole slaw
  • Fruit (watermelon, banana's, honeydew, strawberries, etc)
  • Cookies and bars
  • Salt and pepper
  • Condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish, etc - if needed)

Picnic Fun:
  • Pail and gloves (for picking berries)
  • Bubble liquid and wands
  • Butterfly net and bug jar
  • Beach ball
  • Pail and shovel (for the beach)
  • Snorkel and flippers (for the beach)
  • Binoculars (for bird watching)
  • Frisbee, ball or skipping rope
  • Kite
  • A good book
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Backpack (survival kit) and hiking shoes
Most stores have affordable complete picnic baskets. This includes eating utensils, plates, cups and napkins. I bought mine for only $19.99 at Zellers in Canada. All I had to purchase was a large blanket. Try looking at Zellers, Sears or Walmart (take mom shopping).

For a cheap fun time, go to a dollar store to purchase kites, frisbees, bug kits, beach balls and more! You can cut down on costs substantially by going to a bulk food store.

If your family goes to a park that has barbecue facilities, be sure to tell your parents to pack some lighter fluid and matches. Never play around the fire and always listen to mom and dad's safety rules. Make sure your fire is completely out before leaving your picnic spot.
